[00:00:33] Welcome back to the All One Nurse Podcast where I am your host, Nurse Chanel Tompkins, and I'm just excited to be here with you today. I hope that this message finds you well. And as promised from our last episode with Dr. Samantha Calhoun, I am bringing you this week's episode just as a way to refuel your faith and help build you up spiritually and mentally and maybe even emotionally as you're well on your way through the nursing program or your nursing career or just dealing with healthcare in general. So thank you for being here nonetheless, and I'm actually going to break down this series or this episode into a four part miniseries because it's so much to unpack and some of the things that we're going to talk about is one Releasing fear and doubt and finding peace in the storm 2 replacing fear with faith 3 repenting and receiving God's grace and what that truly means for us and four Refocusing on our assignment, our God given assignment and what it means for us to truly build God's kingdom. So my prayer is that this episode or miniseries will speak to you and resonate with you as you go through what may seem like a difficult season and to equip you for finals and graduation that may be soon around the corner and the holiday season. Father God, I come to you right now Lord, just asking that the words of my mouth and the meditation of our hearts are acceptable into your sight. I pray that you shine your face upon the person tuning in to this episode today, Lord, whether they are watching it on YouTube or just casually Listening as they're going about their day or commuting to school or to work. Father God, I ask that you shine your face upon them, Lord, that their anxiety will be at an all time low and that your peace will transcend over them, Lord, and that their courage in you will be at an all time high and knowing who you are in their lives. So God, I speak toward strength, peace, prosperity, wisdom and discernment and all the things that they need at this time, Lord. See about them in Jesus mighty name and breathe over this episode. [00:03:56] Amen. [00:04:00] Okay, now, one thing that we know about the Word is that it is a lie and it is active, sharper than any two edged sword. And God tells us that his word will will go forth and do what he said that it will do and it will not return back. What void? So we can trust God's word, We can stand on God's word and we can take it to the bank. And guess what? That check will clear every time if we still wrote checks. I'm just saying. So just getting right into this episode. Life brings us seasons of challenges, battles and defeat. But the word of God is our compass and our strength. So I want you to ask yourself, what do I believe? If we look back over our lives, there are moments where we can recall. Recall only God could have brought me through this, or only God could have brought me through that. Even if you didn't know God at that time. Well, on today's episode, my assignment is not only to speak, but to encourage. Not because I've read about it or this is what His Word says, but because I've lived through it. And that's why I'm so big on just getting back to that human side of healthcare and seeing people as who they are, as individuals. And how do we help people be their true authentic self? But not only true, but their best authentic self rather is as a professional, a healthcare professional as myself or the person that I'm actually serving, which is the patient, which could be any of us, right? But as a mother of three with six pregnancies behind me, I know what it feels like to question God, to sit in uncertainty and to wrestle with grief. And as a mom at 17, I knew what it was like to sit in uncertainty, to sit in shame, to sit in embarrassment, and feel like, how did I let this happen and where do I go from here with a child that's dependent on me? So I know what that feels like as well. But I also know what it feels like when God redeems every part of our story. So the lesson releasing fear and doubt our minds, if you think about it, are designed to protect us, often leading us to the worst case scenarios. Maybe you've fear for a loved one, their safety, and when they didn't answer the phone, guess what? You're like, oh, something must have happened, only to find out that they were just late or they left their phone in the car. So the problem is fear exaggerates. Fear exaggerates things that have not even happened. But Philippians 4, chapter 4, verse 6 through 7, reminds us, do not be anxious about anything, but in any every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present our requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. And Paul wrote this to the Philippi from prison. So if he could find peace in chains, surely we can trust God in finals week, in graduation season and holiday stress, when we got loved ones coming or we're expected to travel all the things, right? So a little bit of testimony. I had to surrender my fears. After pregnancy challenges, I felt again unworthy and ashamed and even like a failure, I felt like a disappointment. But I released my fear to God by meditating on God's word and God's promises. And there's one scripture that I really leaned on thanks to a coworker of mine. [00:08:09] And one of those scriptures were Luke 1, verse 45, and it says, blessed is she who has believed the Lord will fulfill his promises to her. And so again, this is during my pregnancy challenges. But blessed is she who has believed that the Lord will fulfill his promises to her in regards to every area of her life. Right, every area of our lives. And also Proverbs 3, verses 5 through 7, which says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways. Acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And so even if he gave me children or allowed me to have children or not, I still had to trust God in the Lord. And so I asked you on this episode, what thoughts are you rehearsing today that God never spoke? As you move forward in the days to come, I want you to remember Mary's faith. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord will fulfill his promises to her. So students, believe that God will carry you through finals, graduation, and beyond. If you've already graduated, you're still trying to pass nclex. Believe that Lord will carry you through passing nclex, through getting the right resources, the right tutor to show you how to show the NCLEX lady that you're safe. I swear the NCLEX is a lady. And if you are a new nurse, trust that the Lord will carry you in your first year of nursing. I believe that a lot of new nurses are shell shocked because everyone doesn't have that great experience and some may even find themselves charging at nine months or at 10 months. And that alone can be traumatizing as a brand new nurse who wants to keep your license. So trust that the Lord will carry you. And truly leaning on the Lord. Just to finish the Scripture of Philippians, chapter four, when you go on to read it, he talks about peace transcending over you in Christ Jesus, or over us in Christ Jesus. But he also gives us a way to encounter that peace through like practically speaking, if you read the rest of the the chapter, then God goes on to say in verse eight, finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things. [00:10:52] And then in 9, verse 9 says, Whatever you have received or heard from me or seen in me, put it into practice and the God of peace will be with you. And again, mind you, mind you, Paul wrote this letter from prison to the Philippians. This is a letter to the Philippians. This is a letter to Philippians from Paul, who is sitting in prison. So if Paul has peace in a confined area, how is it that we do not have peace in freedom? Like we're free to roam, but yet we can find ourselves very anxious, very fearful, very doubtful. And that's where we have to replace this fear with faith. And we're going to talk about this in the next episode, replacing fear with faith. And we're going to piggyback off of some scriptures. James, chapter 1, verse, verses 2 through 4, Hebrews, chapter 4, verse 12, and then 2 Timothy. I have 2 Timothy, chapter 3, verse 16, 17 Psalms, Isaiah and Matthew. So we're going to dive into some different chapters. We're going to dive into the Word. And yes, these series are totally different from my actual interviews with different nursing guests, but even then, their testimonies. [00:12:16] Dr. Ashanta Coleman, her experience with having a stroke not once, but two times, two times, and having to advocate for herself as an advanced nurse practitioner. Imagine that. So ultimately, I want you to know that what you're going through, you're not alone. For me, my main issues or my main challenges, that God have shown himself faithful versus every day showing himself faithful. When I wake up in my Right mind with the activity of my limbs and able to get up and to fix food to eat, put clothes on my back, fresh water to drink. Aside from those things that we take for granted, God was good to me and blessing me with more children, right? Even in the midst of pregnancy losses, he was good to me to do more with less. And the reason why I say that, because if you've listened to my story on the Rapid Response RN with Sarah Lorenzini, then you got to learn that with ectopic pregnancies, which is something that I dealt with, mine actually ruptured and I lost the ovary and a fallopian tube. And I speak about this openly because I want women to know that, hey, it happened. Yes, I trusted God to continue to provide what I needed. And God said I still had everything I needed to produce a child with my husband. And that is exactly what happened. And I always joke that the second, well, the third child, which is the second one with my actual husband, was on birth control. So you cannot tell me what God cannot do. So God can actually do more with less. And that is not only pertaining to me and my body, but to you and what's going on in your life and in the season that you're in, whether you are just trying to fight your way through this semester. Every storm has an end date. Every storm has an end date. So can you lean on God and continue to press through, push on until that storm resolves? Because the semester is going to come to an end. [00:14:34] The program, it has an end date, right? Even when you're sitting there taking boards, taking nclex, there is an end date for that exam. It will cut off at some point. So you just have to be fully prepared on your end and to be equipped, meaning looking toward our source to provide everything that we need in every season that we're in, whether we're facing it financially, mentally, emotionally, physically. [00:15:05] Because life is life. And my desire is for us to live a life, whether we are grieving or mourning, to do it well. Rather, we are rejoicing. Let's do that well. But to always speak life and just going back to Philippians, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is praiseworthy, we have to think on those things and not dwell on the negative. And so my prayer is that this episode has helped you in some form or fashion to equip you to finish this semester well, to identify your support system and to actually utilize them so that you can manage your time well and focus and not feel bad for needing help as you Identify your support system. You also have to be unified and be on one accord. [00:15:59] And this is where I tell all of my nurses, my nursing students, that if you are dating and the relationship is just, it's taking a toll. [00:16:09] That is something that can actually wait. Because that program is way more important right now than trying to get someone who's not even your spouse to understand what it's like being in the program. Unless this is something that y' all are trying to be in unity about and you're both moving into the right direction. Now, I'm not a counsel, not a counselor, but I am just talking from experience and the experience of others, because people will put limitations on you if you let them. And when they put limitations on you, you're either going to limit yourself or you're going to break through that barrier and say, no, I am not going to be limited by your thoughts, your beliefs of what I should or should not do. We actually have to take an honest assessment of what. What are we capable of doing? What do we put forth the effort to do? Because we want to make good, sound choices as well. And ultimately the goal is to be successful in the nursing program, to be successful in your nursing career, and to want to do things well. So as you learn to release doubt and release fear, the next episode we're going to talk about replacing that fear with faith. So I hope that this episode or this part, part one of this 4P4 part miniseries has blessed you. Don't feel bad for having to stay home and study for finals if that is something that you feel the need to do instead of hanging out with loved ones at this time. Or you may not be able to spend the whole time. And guess what? That's okay. Because ultimately the goal is what will give you peace. To be at your loved one's house, family's house, for an hour or hour or two, and then stepping away and going to study for the rest of that time or not going at all, because it may based off patterns, it may end in a very negative way or it drains you. It is okay, I don't know the dynamic, but you do as you have to do the assessment, do the inner work. I'm rambling now, so it's time for me to get off of here.
