[00:00:00] Did you know that first year nurses experience the highest turnover of any group? [00:00:07] That reality is staggering, but it also tells us something important. [00:00:12] You are not alone and your growth matters. [00:00:19] Welcome to the All One Nurse Podcast, where we are bridging the gap between the stethoscope and the soul through real nursing stories and nursing conversations. [00:00:29] Here, our mission is simple. To get back to the human side of healthcare. [00:00:35] I'm your host, nurse Chanel Tompkins, and I'm also your mentor and nurse educator. And this space was created just for you to breathe, to learn, to grow, and most importantly, feel supported no matter where you are in your nursing journey. [00:00:57] So take a deep breath and let's step into your next breakthrough. [00:01:04] Hey, friend. Welcome to the All One Nurse Podcast. I'm so glad you're here with me today again. I'm Chanel, and if you're listening, I just want you to know something right from the start. You matter. And you're not working. You're not walking this journey alone. And this episode is a part of the All1 Nurse Starter Kit create, created especially for new nurses who are stepping into this profession with a mix of excitement, nerves and a lot of questions. Right? So take a breath. You're in the right place. And today I want to talk to you about three things. Three truths that anchor this community and everything we do here at All One Nurse. Number one, what All One Nurse really is. Number two, why I'm so, so passionate about nursing and the next generation of nurses. And three, how all one nurse has evolved to welcome all nurses while loving intentionally on those within their first 18 months of their nursing career. [00:02:09] So let's walk through it quickly together. [00:02:13] Number one, what All One Nurse is, it's a home. I want you to see it as a safe place, a breath of fresh air in a profession that can feel heavy, fast and overwhelming. It's also a faith rooted or faith inspired community, right? Where it's community centered. [00:02:33] And you can be honest about your feelings. You can be honest about the good, the confusing, the bad, the exhausting, and the moments that make you question just everything. [00:02:48] Because I've seen it. I've been there and here. You don't have to pretend. You don't have to be perfect. You don't have to figure it all out. Right on. One Nurse is a reminder that even though we come from different backgrounds, specialties and experiences, we are still one body of nurses learning and growing together. Growing together just like a hospital. I'mma always saying, no matter the title, we are all one body. And we are all needed. So I just want you to think about it as unity, connection and truly belonging. Jumping right into number two. Why I'm so passionate about all one nurse. Let me tell you, heart to heart for a moment. I love nursing. I love nursing. I love what it represents. I love the privilege of caring for people at their most vulnerable moments in their life. But my passion for new nurses run even deeper because I've watched too many nurses walk into this profession excited and then they walk out or want to walk out because they're discouraged. And I've seen nurses go from being confident to losing their confidence because of events that may have happened on a unit or feeling isolated or wondering if they've even made a mistake in becoming a nurse. And I've seen the emotional weight, like the culture shock, the pressure to perform and the struggle. And this was a big one. The struggle for me, this was a big one. The, the struggle to navigate personalities and expectations like that was a big one. And with that, I kept thinking, who is supporting the nurse who is still becoming, who is supporting you and who is speaking into the nurse who is trying to find their way and trying to find their voice and who is reminding you that you're not alone? Like a lot of people say, well, you're not alone, but truly, like you're not alone and to pass no judgment. And that's when God placed this assignment on my heart, especially during 2020, just during the time of COVID where he put it on my heart to want to pour back into nurses during that time because that's when he blessed me with my rainbow baby, meaning that I had pregnancy losses and then I eventually had a successful pregnancy. My five year old now named Luke. But you'll have to hear about that long drawn out story on the Rapid Response RN podcast with Sarah Lorenzini. [00:05:22] Our episode on her podcast talks about ectopic pregnancies, which were some of the complications that I had. But in that, that from just starting all one nurse then to now, I'm very passionate about you, the next generation, because you are the future of this profession. Hands down, you are the ones who will bring compassion back into HealthC. Because I think getting through, surviving Covid just caused us to get away from Standard. And it's like, okay, how do we get back to standard? How do we get back to following protocols and procedures or just caring for one another and not just surviving, but actually thriving and not feeling like my license is at risk. [00:06:10] Right? Or it's just a job because nursing is not, I don't want a nurse who sees her job or his job as just a job. [00:06:19] And I do understand we all come from different backgrounds, but you have to care, or I believe in my opinion, you at least have to care about humans to take a role like nursing and really take care of patients from a place of having just some type of compassion, some type of empathy. But again, as a new nurse, you are the ones who will advocate, innovate and lead with heart going forward as you're connected to the All One Nurse community. Because that is what All One Nurse stands on. And in addition to that, you deserve the support you do. You deserve the support that you need to get through your first year of nursing. And of course, it's a lifelong journey, right? It's a lifelong career. [00:07:09] And so just to get into number three, how has All One Nurse evolved? You know, again, it started as a blog in 2020 that became a podcast in 2024 thanks to nurse.org and winning a competition to become a host on Nurse Converse. When they first brought out Nurse Converse, a podcast presented by Nurse.org and from there I was like, oh, I love this space to where you can really share nursing journeys, insights, motivations, just letting you hear other nursing stories as well as their perspective, whether it's from the perspective of being a nurse or from the perspective of being a patient. Because one thing that you'll realize if you keep living, there are moments where we will become a patient too. Even in my own experience with pregnancy loss and ending up in emergency surgery, we will become patients too. And it's definitely different when you're the one laying in that bed with that gown on with no undergarments, depending on someone else to take care of you at the most vulnerable time of your life. So in addition to our nurse becoming, you know, going from blog to blog and podcast, it's like we have also evolved into a community, having a private Facebook community where you are welcome to go join and upon access, you'll see some devotions by me, your host here, Chanel. And I just when I read the Word of God, as it resonates with me, I love to share it so that it will resonate with you. Like equipping you to help you move life forward and equip you with the tools that you'll need to face everyday life like navigating and having those hard conversations with your peers or with patients or just getting up, being able to show up for a 12 hour shift. And not only that, because as a nurse, you're also a Whole person, right? So you're welcome. So you're welcome to join all One Nurse community, whether it's through the private Facebook page or one on our social media platform like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook. And again. And while we welcome all nurses from every background in every season, our hearts here at all one nurse beats for those within their first 18 months, the ones who are navigating the realities of nursing and the complex of working with others. If that's you, hear me out, hear me clearly. You are not alone. You are not behind, you are not failing. You are simply becoming. If I could tell my younger self, my younger nurse self in my 20s and 20, what, 21, 22, then I will tell myself just that like you are exactly where you need to be. You are still becoming. It is a journey. Just continue to learn how to communicate, speak up, ask questions and not be afraid to be open minded and to not take anything personal, no matter what your preceptor is like, no matter what your manager is like. Like, know that this is, this experience is equipping you for your journey. Not saying take it. I'm saying that there are ways to learn how to communicate effectively. [00:10:35] And one of the episodes that I did on Nurs verse was the power of hello. And we talked about being an introvert versus an extrovert on that episode, but simply the power of hello. [00:10:48] That alone would reduce anxiety. And it also establishes that first line of contact with someone to break down that barrier of saying, hey, I'm here and I see you. [00:11:01] Right, so getting back on topic, just know that this community at all One nurse again, this is to walk you through the overwhelming, the self doubting, the I didn't expect this moment, the emotional and spiritual weight of caring for others and just know all. One nurse is here to remind you that you are growing and learning and you are not alone in any of it. Okay, now I usually do an intermission faith note. And as your solo guest today, my faith note is actually Love God, love yourself and love others. Because before we close, I want to leave you with a simple reminder, a faith reminder that Jesus said, the greatest commandments are these. Love God, love your neighbor, and love yourself. And in nursing, these three loves, they show up every single day. Love God. He is your strength. When the shift is heavy, love yourself. You cannot pour from an empty cup. [00:12:05] And what I've learned is what's in the cup is for you and what's overflowing from the cup is for everyone else. So just remember that what's in your cup is for you, the overflow is for everyone else. And then love others. Every patient is someone that God loves deeply. Every patient is someone that God loves deeply. So if they matter to God, they should matter to you. Point blank and period. Now, when these three loves work together, nursing becomes more than a job, it becomes a ministry. Because Jesus said, love God, love yourself, and love your neighbor. Now, in closing, if this episode resonates with you or it encouraged you, I want you to do three things for me. [00:12:57] Subscribe to the All One Nurse Podcast. Rate this show because your five star rating. It helps more nurses find this community, the All One Nurse community. [00:13:09] And then share this episode with another nurse, a nursing student who needs encouragement. And before I let you go, I may have already mentioned this, but All One Nurse has been nominated for Best of Nursing Nurse Podcast Creator Award and I will absolutely love your support. And this award is presented by Nurse.org and I will love your your vote and the link is in the description below. Now, thank you for being here. If I had to leave you with some scriptures, I want you to meditate and eat on these three scriptures. The first one is Isaiah 40:31 where it says, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on win like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not be faint. [00:14:02] My second scripture is John 14:27 where it says, peace, I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. And then for wisdom, especially for clinical judgment, I love this scripture, James 1:5, where it says, if any of you lack wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. Okay, and I want to give you one more, just one more. Okay, maybe two more. [00:14:40] Joshua 1:9. [00:14:42] And it reads, be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. And then last but not least, and I'm going to end here because I can keep going is Galatians 3, verse 23. And it reads, whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as if working for the Lord. Now that one I love. Because no matter what your day is like, no matter what you're experiencing when it comes to work, work as if you're working unto God, even when others aren't doing what they're supposed to do. And I could keep going. But thank you for being here. Thank you for growing with me. And remember, we are many, but we are all one. Nurse. Now, until next time. Let your light sh.
