[00:00:00] Speaker A: Did you know that first year nurses experience the highest turnover of any group? That reality is staggering, but it also tells us something important. You are not alone and your growth matters. Welcome to the All One Nurse Podcast where we are bridging the gap between the stethoscope and the soul through real nursing stories and nursing conversations. Here our mission is simple to get back to the human side of healthcare. I'm your host, Nurse Chanel Tompkins, and I'm also your mentor and nurse educator. And this space was created just for you to breathe, to learn, to grow, and most importantly, feel supported no matter where you are in your nursing journey. So take a deep breath and let's step into your next breakthrough. [00:01:02] Speaker B: Hey friend. Welcome Back to the All1Nurse podcast where I'm your host, Nurse Chanel Tompkins and this space was made just for you. And if you're new here, welcome. This is where new nurses, especially new grads stepping into their first role, come for encouragement, accountability and and some real life support. And on this episode we're getting ready to talk about the nclex but from a place of integrity, preparation and wisdom. As a staff development specialist, I've watched too many new nurses or new nursing grads begin their careers before they even have their license and I want to leave you with some powerful tools to help you prepare well. But before we dive in, go ahead and subscribe so you never miss another episode. And if this episode resonates with you, be sure to leave a review so that you'll let others know that this space exists. Now, we're going to dive into a couple of things and number three things. Number one, Preparation is key and there's a scripture that says my integrity, may my integrity and my uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord is in you. And it comes from Psalms 25, verse 21. And I start with integrity because how you prepare matters. My desire is not for you to chase a get rich quick scheme for passing the NCLEX per se, but to choose credible study resources, create a realistic study plan or study schedule and actually stick to it. I've interviewed some amazing NCLEX tutors, while me myself am not one. I've included their episodes inside the New Nurse Starter kit I curated just for you and you can find that kit in the show notes below. And for me, I have used Hearst Review to prepare for the content and Kaplan for questions. Now you need something that teaches you how to think through the NCLEX style questions and sometimes that gives you something that gives you practice. And yes, you're tackling the updated next gen nclex, so make sure your study tools match the exam that you're actually taking. Number two Understand the test you're taking. You are taking a standardized test designed to determine whether you are safe to practice as a licensed nurse. So let's break this down. Go to the official website and read through the NextGen NCLEX breakdown. Look at the question formats and understand that you will see case studies, you will see multiple response questions and several questions may fall under one scenario and clinical judgment is the foundation of the exam. And when you understand the structure, you reduce unnecessary anxiety because some anxiety is normal. You've never taken this exam before, but informed anxiety is manageable Anxiety and there's a scripture that says get wisdom, get understanding. Do not forget my words or turn away from them. Proverbs 4 verse 5 Because wisdom reduces fear and understanding builds confidence. Now number three Study right, not long and wrong Friend I've seen many nursing grads study hard. But study wrong. And studying wrong will exhaust you without preparing you. And tutors like Susanna Valdez and Bria Burley teach this well. It's not about taking practicing 100 to 200 questions a day. It's about learning how to think through NCLEX style questions. So try doing 20 to 25 questions a day and spend time with the rationales and ask yourself why did you get it right? Why did you get it wrong? And what is the question really asking? And this is where the learning happens. This is where confidence grows and this is where content sticks. Many people do not need a tutor. They need better strategy. And my desire is that you get the support you need before you take the test because a lot of times you need the tutor in the event that you fail the test. So quick recap. Preparation is key. Choose credible tools and stick to the plan and then understand the exam. Reduce anxiety by knowing what you're walking into and then study right. Quality over quantity. Strategy over stress. Now I hope this blesses you and helps you. I pray you give yourself grace, keep becoming and let your light shine. Because every day the Lord gives us is another day to grow. And when you pass nclex be sure to let me know. I want to celebrate you and be sure to check out my next bonus episode. You passed nclex.
